Because we supply so many different alarm control panels and they can be configured in different ways, a full list of troubleshooting procedures would take so long to search through that you would find it difficult to find your exact system.
Instead here are some common, general problems and their most common solutions:
| If the alarm system will not fully or partially set/arm: |
Does your alarm require you enter your user code before you set it? If so check that the code you are entering is correct. |
Have you left something open? Doors or windows connected to the system will need to be properly close before setting the alarm. Obviously, the door on your pre-defined exit route isn't included in this, but every other door and window needs to be properly closed. |
Is something moving in the zone(s) you are trying to set? People and pets still moving the areas you are trying to set will often prevent the system from arming. |
Low battery. If the battery back-up power for the control panel is low then you may not be able to set the alarm until it is replaced. If you are having your alarm system serviced annually then the only time this should occur is if you had the power disconnected for a significant length of time, or in the event of a problem with the hardware of the control panel. Either way, contact us to come and replace the battery for you. |
The alarm has been activated, but not reset. If the alarm has been activated (gone off), the system will need to be reset, even after the activation has been cancelled. You may (depending on the way your system has been configured) be able to reset the system yourself with your user code (check the manual for instructions), or you may need to contact us for a special reset code. |
| If the alarm system will not unset/deactivate: |
Don't panic. Most people think that as soon as their alarm goes off that their home is going to be stormed by police looking to arrest a burglar. This won't happen. If the alarm goes off, even if you can't deactivate, you'll have a contact number for the monitoring office. Call them and tell them what is happening. |
Take a deep breath and enter your code again. If you panic or rush, you are likely to enter a code incorrectly. |
If the system will still not unset, contact us for assistance. |
| My alarm is beeping/flashing: |
The manual will explain what the various lights, beeps or messages mean. |
| My alarm keeps going off for no reason: |
It is unlikely that there is no reason, it just isn't burglars. You system will keep a log of where the alarm was activated. This can be used to narrow down the search for what caused the false alarm. |
| I changed my user code and I can't remember what I changed it to: |
We do advise you to not do this. If you change your code, change it to something you will remember, or write it down as you change it (don't leave it written down near the control panel). |
If you do forget your code, one of our engineers will have to come to your home to reset your system and set you up with a new code. |
